It takes me anywhere between 30 to 40 hours to create what I do.
Sure, I can probably put together a wedding video in a day. It is possible. But it’s likely to lack any story, personality and quite frankly resemble the days of the old school traditional video.
Every couple that has invested in me knows that I take great pride, care and attention to what I do. It’s the reason why I exist and the reason why couples have chosen to trust me to capture what will be for most people a one-time only event in their lifetime.
Its not just creating a wedding film. It’s creating a family heirloom. This won’t only be watched by you. It will be watched by parents, grandparents, your children and in time your children’s children. So, I firmly believe making this the best film you’ve ever seen an absolute must.
It takes the best part of 30 to 40 hours to perfect your wedding day footage into a cinematic wedding film and I’ve broken down the various stages.
At these early stages we would have created all the project files in our editor to get ready for the production stages and perform backups of all the audio and video we took from the day.
At this stage, we will begin processing the footage into smaller, more manageable files to begin the edit phase. Because we shoot in 4K, we render out smaller, low quality copies of all the footage to help us edit that bit quicker. Once this is done, we start to organise all the clips into the various parts of the day and begin to chip away at whats usable and then further decide what we will use for the main edit.
Once we have everything in place from the last stage, we will begin the creative process of editing. Firstly we edit your ceremony and speeches as this forms the basis of the storytelling. This means watching back the entire proceedings in full, stopping and starting to cut between angles. This as you can imagine takes a bit of time to do. We then cherry-pick the bits that we want from both the ceremony and speeches to form part of the main edit.
Music selection is next – and its the glue that puts it all together. The music selection process can be a tedious process as we closely match music that not only fits the vibe of your day but also works with the different scenes of the day also.
Once the music is set, we begin building the foundations of your main edit.
We’ve finally created the timeline and got a draft wedding film. Now that we have the story laid out, we need to fine-tune it to make it cinema-worthy! This is the arty stage of all the processes as this is where we do colour correct and grade everything single clip that made it to the final cut. There will be some final tinkering with pacing between cuts, masking out unwanted objects/people (IE myself when I get in my own shots) from certain clips, smoothing of transitions and ensuring our audio isn’t clipping and the dialogue punches through beautifully – So, yep quite a bit to do here but the finishing line is in sight.
The most satisfying stage of all – the delivery stage. We render out everything we’ve done into one file. We will do out quality control checks to ensure we haven’t missed anything and everything works how it should.
It’s then uploaded to your online gallery for you to enjoy for eternity.
